Doncic supports Slovenia with triple-double; Giannis maintains Greece s overall victory

Luka Doncic sent a triple-double, helping Slovenia defeat Belgium 86-69 and win the first victory of the European Basketball Championship. Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points in his comeback, helping Greece to defeat Georgia 94-53 and remain unbeaten.

Doncic scored 26 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in Katowice, Poland. Since 1995, the European Basketball Championship has only had four triple-doubles.

The Los Angeles Lakers star player has also become the youngest player to score 400 European basketball league points since Tony Parker (25 years and 122 days) in 2007 (26 years and 184 days).

"It's a normal day in his office," Slovenian small forward Edo Muric said about Doncic. "I'm even happier that today we showed we were able to play good defense. And we won."

After losing against Poland and France - despite Doncic's 34 and 39 points respectively - Slovenia will play against Iceland in a Group D match on Tuesday.

Israel and 2022 finalist France shared second place with their respective five points in Group D, with Israel defeating France 82-69, and Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdia contributed 23 points. The group stage of

24 teams is being played in four different countries. The top four teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage from September 6 to 14 in Riga, Latvia.

Antetokounmpo's Greek team advanced, Antetokounmpo did not play in Saturday's game, Greece defeated Cyprus 96-69, and the Milwaukee Bucks forward scored 31 points in Sunday's game against Georgia, and Antetokounmpo also contributed 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Greece led Group C with six points and secured a seat in the last 16 after Italy beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 96-79 on Sunday night.

Simone Fontecchio, from the Miami Heat, scored 39 points, breaking the single-game scoring record of Andre Bagnani held by Italian players in the European Basketball Championship. Italy overcomes the difficulties of coach Gianmarco Pozeco being sent off.

In Group C, defending champion Spain defeated Cyprus 91-47, and Willie Hernangomez contributed 19 points. Spain and Italy tied for second in the group with 5 points.
