September 12th NBA officially issued an announcement stating that the NBA publicity ambassador, 13-year veteran Jason Collins is receiving treatment to combat brain tumors.

Collins is the first player to come out publicly among the four major professional sports leagues in North America. In 2013, Collins, who had been in the NBA for 12 seasons, said in a personal essay in Sports Illustrated: "I am a 34-year-old NBA center, I am black, and I am gay." He also said in the article: "I dated women when I was young, and I was even engaged. I thought I had to live somehow, and I thought I needed to marry a woman and raise children with her. I kept telling myself that the sky was red, but I always knew it was blue."

This article caused a sensation across the United States and received high praise and support. In the summer of the same year, Collins became a free agent. In early 2014, Collins joined the Nets through a 10-day short contract and officially signed the contract later. After the season, Collins announced his retirement, ending his 13-year NBA career. That same year, Collins confirmed that he was dating film producer Brunson Green, who was nominated for the film TheHelp. More than a decade later, just in June this year, Collins married Green, with actress Octavia Spencer and former NBA player Richard Jefferson attending the wedding.

Colins was the No. 18 pick in the first round of 2001. He played for the Nets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Hawks, Celtics and Wizards in his NBA career. He played in 735 regular season games, averaged 20.4 minutes per game, scored 3.6 points and 3.7 rebounds, shot 41.1% from the field and free throw percentage 64.7%
