Does anyone still remember Kyle O'Quinn? That technical inside big center.
Kyle O 'Quinn, Kyle O'Quinn, 6-foot-10 inches (208 cm), plays as center (C)/power forward (PF). He was born in March 1990 in Flushing, the second largest Chinatown in the United States in northeastern Queens, New York, USA. He was produced by Norfolk State University. He was selected by the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft 19th pick (49th pick) and entered the NBA since then. In his eight seasons of NBA career, Kyle O'Quinn has played for four teams, namely Magic (2012-2015), Knicks (2015-2018), Pacers (2018-2019), and 76ers (2019-2020). He played in a total of 472 games in the regular season, including 65 starts, averaging 14.2 minutes per game, scoring 5.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.0 blocks. He played in 2 games in the playoffs and failed to get a starting opportunity. He averaged 4.0 minutes per game, failed to score, and scored 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists.
Kyle O'Quinn is a technical center with excellent athletic ability, extremely threatening in rebounding and blocking, has certain mid- and long-range shooting ability, has good finishing ability at the basket, can support at high positions, and has good passing ability. However, the defensive mobility is poor, and it is difficult to quickly switch between the penalty area and the outside defense area. There are frequent fouls during defense and rough low-post skills, especially the real shooting rate is at the same level as the middle and lower level. But O'Quinn also has some highlight moments.
Local time in the United States, on March 27, 2013, in the Orlando Magic's away game, Kyle O'Quinn started for 42 minutes, made 11 of 14 shots and 1 of 2 free throws, scoring the highest single-game 23 points in the NBA career, plus 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal. On December 22, 2016, in the New York Knicks' 106:95 home victory over the Orlando Magic, Kyle O'Quinn played for 24 minutes on the bench, scored 14 points and 5 blocks, and captured the NBA career-high 16 rebounds.
Local time on March 16, 2017, in the New York Knicks' home loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Kyle O'Quinn played for 26 minutes on the bench, made 10 of 15 shots and 3 free throws, tying the NBA career highest 23 points, plus 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. On April 7, 2018, in the New York Knicks' loss to the Milwaukee Bucks at 102:115 at home, Kyle O'Quin started for 30 minutes, scored 15 points, 5 assists and 4 blocks, and grabbed the NBA career-high 16 rebounds. After the 2020-2021 season, O'Quinn gradually faded out of the NBA and went overseas to compete. He played in France, Türkiye, CBA, Japan and other leagues. In April 2025, Kyle O'Quin officially retired, ending his career as a player and was invited to return to his alma mater, Norfolk State University, to serve as executive director of sports development.
