The defensive performance is unsatisfactory. Can the Knicks forward player leave the team this summer?

New York local media Newsday Sports reporter Steve Popper recently published an article in which he also talked about the future of New York Knicks substitute striker Precious Achiuwa in the team. Popper said: Among the players who can help the Knicks team, Achuva seems to be the most likely player to leave the team. Last summer, Achuwa delayed until there was no other way before completing the contract renewal with the team. By this season, he was a little dissatisfied with his playing time. In turn, the coaching staff was not satisfied with Achuwa's performance on the defensive end and his level of stability in form.

In the NBA regular season this season, Achuwa made a total of 57 appearances in 82 games, averaging 20.5 minutes per game, averaging 6.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks. He also had 0.8 turnovers and 1.4 fouls. His shooting percentage was 50.2%, three-point shooting percentage was 27.8%, and free throw shooting percentage was 59.4%. In the playoffs, Achuwa made a total of 10 appearances, averaging 4.2 minutes, averaging 1.8 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.1 assists, 0.1 turnovers and 0.2 fouls, with a shooting percentage of 42.9%, a three-point shooting percentage of 0%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 50%.

Achuwa's performance this season is obviously not ideal. He can still play some of his own value in the regular season and play a certain role on the court. But in the playoffs, he cannot get a stable playing time, he is not a regular rotation player, and his data also seems very mediocre. It is obvious that the Knicks' former head coach Tom Thiboddeau is somewhat disagreeable with his performance and ability. In addition, his extremely conservative way of employing people is also an important factor in the Knicks' unwilling to provide Achuwa with more playing time despite insufficient staff.

Achuwa's contract with the Knicks expired last year. As the Knicks made several big deals, after a period of waiting, Achuwa signed a one-year contract with the Knicks with a total amount of $6 million and continued to stay with the team. By this summer, Achuwa will become a free agent again. The problem now is that Thibodeau has been fired by the Knicks, and the Knicks have not made substantial progress in the selection of coaches so far. Therefore, in this case, if such news is released, it is more or less suspected of lowering the price. It is not easy for Achuva to get an annual salary of 6 million next season, but considering that the Knicks hold his bird rights, he is not without the opportunity to stay on the team.
