The list is announced! The "provincial team" guards are completely out of the men s basketball team. What is wrong with our training?

Today, the Chinese Taipei Men's Basketball Team announced the 16-man Asian Cup roster. Chen Yingjun, Lin Tingqian, Liu Zheng, Gao Jinwei... This luxurious lineup even pales in comparison to the back line of the Chinese Men's Basketball Team. When Zhao Jiwei and Sun Minghui were absent due to injuries, the only thing the Chinese men's basketball team could do was Zhao Rui compete. This gap made people ask: Did our guard training really take a detour?
The guards of Taipei in China have always been very strong. Chen Yingjun averaged 16.6 points and 4.6 assists per game in the CBA. He led the team to the finals just after joining Beijing last season; Lin Tingqian became the absolute core of the Tianjin team with an average of 18.4 points and 6.3 assists per game. His breakthrough and key ball handling are his characteristics; although Gao Jinwei has never entered the CBA, he had previously beaten the Chinese men's basketball back line at the college sports meeting. What’s even more terrifying is the age structure of these players – Chen Yingjun is 32 years old, Lin Tingqian is 26 years old, and Gao Jinwei is 25 years old, which just covers the golden stage from the maturity to the rising stage.
In contrast, the back line of the Chinese men's basketball team is in a dilemma of being in trouble. Although Zhao Rui can stand alone, he still has shortcomings in connecting the entire team and shooting; after Zhao Jiwei and Sun Minghui were absent, the thickness of the back line was completely exposed, which is in sharp contrast to the scene of "everyone can hold the ball" of the Chinese Taipei team.
The guard training model in Taipei, China is worth pondering. Most of their players experience the complete training chain of "high school league - university system - professional league". For example, He Bo comes from Harvard University and He Dan comes from Cornell University. The influence of American basketball has given them both tactical literacy and creativity. In the SBL League in Taiwan Province, young defenders can get enough ball training. Chen Youwei was at the age of 22 and was firmly in the main force of the Fubon Warriors. This "dare to use young people" atmosphere allows them to grow rapidly in actual combat. In contrast, our defender training seems to be trapped in the misunderstanding of "focusing on body and neglecting technology". In the Youth League, coaches prefer to choose tall and strong players, neglecting the polishing of core skills such as dribbling rhythm and passing vision. After entering the professional league, young defenders often have to wait for opportunities behind veterans for a long time, and very few can play as the main player at the age of 20. More importantly, the defenders in the tactical system are often positioned as "fixed-point shooters" or "simple breakthrough hands", lacking the authority to independently create offensive opportunities, and over time, the spiritual energy is smoothed out.
Some people say that the Chinese men's basketball team can make up for the gap in the defenders by relying on the advantages of the forward and inside, but basketball is a sport of five people. In modern basketball, guards are the tactical starting point, and their control over the game directly determines the team's upper limit. The defenders of the Chinese Taipei team can not only score on their own, but also drive their teammates. This "all-roundness" is exactly what our players lack the most. When Chen Yingjun teared the defense with precise passes in the CBA playoffs, when Lin Tingqian ended the game with a three-pointer at a critical moment, we had to admit that their training system did produce guards who were more suitable for modern basketball.
Instead of worrying about the sigh of "the provincial team is stronger than the national team", it is better to learn from the pain and reform the youth training: give young guards more ball rights, so that they can make mistakes and grow in actual combat; learn the cultivation of "basketball IQ" in the American system, rather than just focusing on physical data; the professional league gives more opportunities for newcomers around 20 years old, breaking the shackles of "sessence-based ranking". There is never a shortcut to the development of basketball, and the growth of guards takes ten years to sharpen their swords. Seeing that Japan has trained 175cm Yoshihiro Kawamura and 172cm Tak Center have already beaten our back line in the international arena, it is time for the Chinese men's basketball team to change their training ideas.
