The Rockets defensive champion left the team this summer and became a high probability event. It is very suitable but also very useless.

Since Uduka became the Rockets' head coach, the Rockets' most useless player is Jay Sean Tate.

In the summer of 2020, the Rockets signed Tate with a one-year basic salary non-guaranteed contract. At that time, the Rockets were still at the end of Harden's core team building. The Rockets lost to the Lakers 1:4 in the second round of the playoffs that year. When the Rockets were eliminated, the team faced a fall apart. Famous reporter, but Charania reported that many players were dissatisfied with the team. The Rockets successively traded Westbrook in exchange for Wall, gave up D'Antoni, hired the young Silas as the new coach, and signed Tate in Taobao-style in the summer of that year. Tate performed well in the preseason and finally won the Rockets to turn the contract into a regular.

2020-2021 season, the Rockets experienced many turbulences. Harden was traded by the team at the beginning of the season. The team was uncompetitive with the lineup combination of Wood + Wall + Oladipo. In the case of very poor offense and defense, Tate became the team's best starting player and is the Rockets' best defense player. For this reason, Tate was selected as the first team of the season's best rookie team.

Tate With the reconstruction of the Rockets, the number of young players has gradually increased, and Tate's status in the team has gradually declined. In the 2021-2022 season, Tate is still the team's starter, but Jaylen Green, Kevin Porter Jr. and Shin Kyung are the targets of the Rockets' focus, and the ball rights are more tilted towards them. Tate wipes the butts for these players on the defensive end. Tate's excellent defensive awareness is still the best defensive player of this team and is valued in Silas' coaching system.

For this reason, in the summer of that year, the Rockets renewed Tate's contract with a three-year, $22.1 million in advance, thus recognizing Tate's performance.

In the 2022-2023 season, Tate suffered a long injury and only played 31 games throughout the season. Because the Rockets needed to train young players, Tate's status declined and became a substitute in Silas' coaching system.

In the summer of 2023, the Rockets did not execute the team options of the Silas contract. The Silas contract expired and parted ways with the Rockets. In the summer of the same year, the Rockets signed Uduka and introduced veterans such as Van Vleet and Dillon. Uduka evaluated that Tate's playing style and characteristics were still very in line with his needs, and the Rockets chose to leave Tate.

In the two seasons of Uduka coaching the Rockets, Tate's position in the team has gradually declined. The Rockets have no idea or plan to trade Tate. They were already at the end of the rotation lineup last season and were not in the rotation lineup most of this season.

This season, Tate played 52 games for the Rockets, averaging 3.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.1 blocks, 0.4 turnovers and 1.6 fouls, with a shooting percentage of 47.3%, a three-point shooting percentage of 34.8%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 68.1%.

From the perspective of data, there is no highlight of Tate, but Tate's role is obviously not something that can be displayed through data.

Tate is a panacea player, but there is no special part of it. Tate can hold the ball. During the coaching period of Silas, when Daishen Knicks kept making mistakes with the ball, and Uduka made Tate hold the ball, the effect was much better. Tate has a certain ability to hold the ball, but this ability to hold the ball is not top-notch, it is just enough. The standard for organizing the striker is pretty good, but the standard for being a defender is obviously not enough. Therefore, in Uduka's system, Tate does not have the authority to hold the ball.

Tate's tough attack box, which he was best at on the offensive end, rushed to the basket with the ball, and made a physical confrontation and technical layup. During Silas' coaching, Tate had such authority. In Uduka's coaching, Tate's authority was also removed. Tate's offensive end was more proactive in pick-and-rolling for his teammates and opened up open spaces for his teammates.

However, Tate is not good at shooting in his career. He is a forward without a basket. His three-point shooting percentage in his career is 30.9%. This season, Tate shot 35% of his three-point shooting percentage. Although he is still shorted by the opponent in many cases, he can punish the opponent's shorting. It is basically the highlight of his career shooting. It can be seen that Tate must have practiced three-pointers hard in the offseason, which has prompted Tate to improve his three-pointers very significantly.

As a defensive player, Tate's defensive enthusiasm and defensive attitude are very good, but the defense effect is not good. On the one hand, Tate's physical talent is relatively average, and his height and body shape are at a disadvantage against the inside. He prevents small guards from moving their footsteps and movement speeds, and his shooting stability on the offensive end is not good. The biggest problem that prompts Tate is actually positioning and positioning.

For this reason, in Uduka's system, Tate is basically used as a defensive player, but Tate has many problems on the defensive end. On the one hand, the defense seems strong and the movements seem very large, but the defense effect is not good. On the other hand, Tate's foul control is not good, and there are often situations where fouls are overwhelmed for a short period of time.

Tate's defensive teamwork, defensive communication, and commanding teammates to defend and run very well. Tate also worked very hard on both offense and defense ends, but due to limited talent and very low ceiling, the Rockets need to train too many young players, and the talent and overall performance of young players are obviously too strong than Tate. Although Tate is very tough and suitable for Uduka's playing style, he gradually has no position in the Rockets.

This summer, Tate's contract expired. With the Rockets' usage rate against Tate in the past two seasons, it is highly likely that Tate will not renew its contract. As the player who has played for the longest time at the moment, he is the only player in the Rockets' core period. He may face a very high probability of leaving the team. Perhaps if the environment changes, Tate can rejuvenate his new year, but in the Rockets, which are stockpiling on the front line, the Rockets no longer have Tate's position. Separation is the best choice for both sides.
