Who has the best roster of former teammates in their career? (by Isiah Thomas)

10:47pm, 16 October 2025【Basketball】

Isiah Thomas, whose full name is Isiah Lord Thomas III. Born on April 30, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, he serves as a point guard and is nicknamed the "Smiling Assassin". In the 1981 draft, Thomas was selected by the Pistons with the second overall pick in the first round. He has played for the Pistons for all 13 years of his career! In his career, he was selected to the All-Stars 12 times, the All-NBA Team 5 times (First Team x 3, Second Team x 2), won the championship trophy 2 times, and was elected FMVP once.

Thomas scored a total of 18,822 points in his career, ranking 70th on the all-time scoring list, 9,061 assists, 10th on the all-time assists list, 1,861 steals, and 18th on the all-time steals list. As perhaps the greatest small player in NBA history, Thomas, with his outstanding personal skills and perseverance, perfectly explains what basketball is not a giant's game! He is the top three point guards in history in the eyes of the three fat men.

Without further ado, the level of the Smiling Assassin’s former teammates is not something you and I can say! What is right and what is wrong, we let the data speak for itself!

So this issue of the Three Fats will continue this new series - taking stock of who has the best former teammates in their career? (PS: Former teammates naturally do not include current teammates, so as to avoid flooding the comments section, they are marked in bold!!!)

Starting lineup:

Point guard: Alvin Robertson

Duo partner Team: Detroit Pistons

Duration of partnership: 1 season (92-93)

Data during partnership: 9.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.2 steals, 0.3 blocks

Peak season statistics: 19.6 Points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 3.0 steals, 0.8 blocks (87-88 season, Spurs)

Career honors: 1st DPOY, 1st MIP, 1st second team, 2nd first defense, 4th second defense, 3rd steal king, 4th All-Star

Brief comment on the three fat men: If Robertson hadn't briefly played for the Pistons for one season, the three fat men would never have found an All-Star point guard that he had partnered with during his career... After all, Thomas dedicated all 13 years of his career to the Pistons and has always maintained his peak condition! One of the rare four-doubles, Robertson started on defense. While winning the regular season steals title three times, he also won the best defensive player trophy! And its organizational sorting ability is also at an excellent level.

Shooting guard: Joe Dumars

Partner team: Detroit Pistons

Duo partnership time: 9 seasons (85-86, 86-87, 87-88, 88 -89, 89-90, 90-91, 91-92, 92-93, 93-94)

Data during partnership period: 17.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.1 blocks

Top Peak season statistics: 23.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.1 blocks (92-93 season, Pistons)

Career honors: 2 championships, 1 FMVP, 1 second team, 2 third team , 4-time first defense, 1-time second defense, 6-time All-Star

Brief comment on Three Fats: As the only clean stream in the Bad Boys, basketball god Michael Jordan once commented: "Joe Dumars is the most difficult to deal with and the most respectable defensive player." There are very few players who can make Jordan make such an evaluation, but Dumars can do it. One can only imagine how strong Dumas is! In addition to his excellent defensive ability, Dumars is also stable and efficient on the offensive end. It is evident that he can steal the FMVP from the hands of the Assassins...

Small forward: Adrian Dantley

Duo team: Detroit Pistons

Duo partnership time: 3 seasons (86-87, 87-88, 88-89)

Data during the partnership period: 20.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0 .7 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 30.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.0 blocks (82-83 season, Jazz)

Career honors: 1st ROY, 2nd second team, 2nd scoring champion, 6th All-Star

Three fat comments: Although his scoring ability is explosive, Dantley has never been a qualified leader. And this should be the main reason why he has played for 7 teams in his 15-year NBA career despite having no talent... His character determines his destiny, and the taciturn Dantley can easily arouse the resentment of his teammates and even the management due to some weird behaviors.. And Tripka's career with three different teams reflects this fact very well!

Shooting guard: Lionel Hollins

Partner team: Detroit Pistons

Duration of partnership: 1 season (83-84)

Data during partnership: 1.8 points, 0.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.0 blocks

Peak season statistics: 15.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.8 steals, 0.4 blocks (78-79 season, Trail Blazers)

Career honors: 1 championship, 1 first defense, 1 second defense, 1 All-Star

Three fat comments: Compared to his player career, Hollins' coaching career may be more well-known to the public. As the Grizzlies coach who has had three ups and downs, the Black and White Bears led by Hollins have also caused a lot of trouble to the Spurs. Then he joined the Lakers coaching staff to assist Vogel and finally won a championship ring! As a player, Hollins was a typical representative who emphasized defense over offense. He emphasized strong defense and incorporated this concept into his subsequent coaching style.

Shooting guard: Ricky Pierce

Partner team: Detroit Pistons

Duration of partnership: 1 season (82-83)

Data during partnership: 2.2 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 steals, 0.1 blocks

Peak season statistics: 23.0 Points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.1 blocks (89-90 season, Bucks)

Career honors: 2-time SMOY, 1-time All-Star

Triple Fat Brief Comment: From the data alone, we would never have thought that Ricky Pierce was a player who played almost all substitute games in his career (969 games and 700 substitute appearances). But this is indeed the case. You can imagine how many earth-shattering things Pierce did on the bench... This two-time Best Sixth Man winner is not inferior to many 75-level stars in terms of scoring ability!

So the above is the best lineup of former teammates that Isiah Thomas has played with in his career in the minds of the three fat guys. What do you think about this?
