On May 22, Manchester United lost to Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 in the UEFA Cup final. Just a few hours after the game, coach Ruben Amorin flew to Monaco to have an emergency and intense meeting with the club's top leaders.

According to The Athletic, Amorin made an exception to attend Manchester United's monthly senior meetings, and the head coach usually does not participate in such meetings. The meeting was held at a disappointing season for Manchester United: they lost 18 games in the Premier League and ended up only 15th.

For this key meeting, Amorin rushed to Monaco from Bilbao overnight and explained in detail his plan for the team's future and why he is still the best candidate to coach Manchester United. He immediately returned to Manchester after the meeting and announced to the team the next day that he would continue to serve as head coach next season.

After the final round of the league against Aston Villa on May 25, Amorin apologized to the fans and players in his speech. At the same time, he also made no shy criticism of the team's sluggish performance throughout the season.

He said: "First, I must apologize to everyone. This season is indeed a very disappointing. Secondly, I want to thank all the fans who still support us. We know how difficult it is to continue to cheer for us in such a difficult time. But now, we must make a choice: whether to continue to indulge in the past or move forward together."

Amorin also reiterated a passage he said when he first took office:

"When I first arrived and achieved two wins and one draw in the first three games, I told you that the storm is coming. Now, after such a disastrous season, what I want to say is that light will come."

Next, Amorin will start a comprehensive reform of Manchester United. By then, almost the entire existing player lineup may face a major cleanup.
