Ajax exiled seven generals overnight, and civil strife in the Eredivisie escalates

According to the Telegraph, the Ajax club has informed seven players through WhatsApp that they have been suspended from participating in first-team training. Technical Director Alex Cruise informed the players that they will not prepare for the 2025/26 season with the first team. Players involved include:

Goalkeeper: Jay Gorter

Midfielder: Branco van den Boomen

Forward: Christian Rasmussen

Left midfielder: Borna Sosa (played on loan at Torno in 2024/25 season)

Midfielder: Kristian Hlynsson (loan to Sparta Rotterdam from January)

Left winger: Carlos Forbes Forbs, playing for Wolves on loan in 2024/25)

Forward: Chuba Akpom (playing for loan in 2024/25)

Club's personnel policy is related to the consequences of Mislintat's transfer operations during his tenure as Ajax director. In the summer of 2023, Mislintat spent about 12 million euros to introduce 12 players, some of whom did not become the main players of the team. Mislintat was fired in September 2023 after a bad start to the 2023/24 season. Some players signed in the summer of 2023 (including Akpon, Forbes, Borna Sosa and Van Denbumen) have terms in their contracts: If Ajax qualifies for the next Champions League in the 2024/25 season, their salary will automatically increase by 50%. According to sources, the club plans to sell the seven players to raise funds to strengthen the roster.

Ajax reportedly allowed these players to use the training ground and gym only after first-team lunch. If head coach Heatinga arranges the team to conduct training twice a day, these seven players can only appear at the training base after the second training is over. In addition, they were banned from using the parking lots of players and first team coaching staff, and medical care was limited to working with a physical therapist.

The Dutch Players Association (VVCS) commented on its social media about the club's decision: "VVCS was surprised by Ajax's decision to suspend training for seven players who still had valid contracts. These players were deliberately isolated from their first team colleagues.

VVCS believes this is a manifestation of employer misconduct and an unnecessary public derogatory to the players, and the players are not responsible for this situation. In fact, these players have become victims of the club's failed policy, and it is the club that has given Mislintat complete freedom of movement."
