Steele joined Brighton in 2018 and has made 60 appearances for the team so far. Prior to this, the experienced England goalkeeper played for clubs such as Middlesbrough, Northampton, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland.

Brighton head coach Huerzeler said: "I am very happy that Steele can continue to stay with the team in the next few years. He has an important influence in the dressing room and maintains very high professional standards on and off the field. I look forward to him continuing to accompany the team forward."

Steele said after the contract extension: "The progress the club has made since I joined Brighton is incredible. If I can stay here for ten years, it will be A very special achievement. We have an excellent coaching team and goalkeeper team, and everyone motivates each other, makes progress together, and strives to be the best every day. I look forward to continuing to contribute to Brighton’s future. Our goal this season is to reach Europe again. It was a great experience in Europe two years ago and if we can stay consistent, I believe we are fully capable of doing it again. The team is young and talented, but also has the necessary experience, a combination that inspires confidence. "
