Brothers in distress? Milan and Roma exchange players have become substitutes, and they may go home in the summer window

In the 24/25 season, Milan player Salmarques and Roman player Abraham exchanged clubs on loan. Although both of them showed good competitive state in the new team, as the season approached the end, they were inexplicably reduced to substitutes, and they may both return to their old clubs this summer window.

In the summer window of 2024, AC Milan winger Salmarkles loaned Roma, while Red Wolves center Abraham was loaned to Milan. There was no buyout clause in the contract between the two. Sama and Yawang have been in a very similar situation in their loan careers for nearly a year. They both experienced low openings and high closings, and then became substitutes again at the end of the season.

Salemacles was troubled by injuries and stayed dormant until December to reach a stable playing time. The Belgian showed high offensive efficiency under Ranieri, contributing 6 goals and 5 assists in 28 games, and participating in an average of 1 goal every 135 minutes. However, as the league was approaching the end, Sama lost his main position.

In the recent Serie A match against Inter Milan and Fiorentina, Salemacles sat on the bench for a while and did not get a one-minute chance to play. This situation is a bit abnormal for all-rounders who can adapt to three different coaching systems: De Rossi, Yuric and Ranieri.

The main reason is that Ranieri has changed from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2 in the last two games. The team's right winger Mattias Sule retreated to the right wingback and squeezed Salemacles on the bench. This change also achieved good results. Roma defeated two powerful opponents, Inter Milan and Purple Lily, and Sulai scored one goal.

This winter window, Rome once wanted to buy out Sama in advance, but the conditions offered failed to convince Milan. After the season, Roma's attitude may change, and the Belgian will face three outcomes, staying in Rome, being recalled by Milan's new coach, or cashing out to other leagues for financial considerations.

Abraham's situation is very similar to that of Salmakels. He was rented out to San Siro in August last year, and he was always under fierce competitive pressure here. He was positioned as Morata's rotation substitute in the first half of the season, and faced another competition from Mr. 35 million S Jimenez in the second half of the season, and Jovic, who has recently recovered from form, surpassed the appearance pick.

Nevertheless, the English striker has made 43 appearances in various competitions this season, contributing 10 goals and 7 assists, and participating in an average of one goal every 103 minutes. He scored key goals against Inter Milan in the Italian Super Cup final and the first leg of the Italian Cup semi-finals.

However, with Jovic's unexpected strong return, Abraham's position in Concesan's tactical system declined again. Given Milan's unwillingness to give up its huge investment in Jimenez in the near term, Abraham's chances of getting an opportunity at the end of the season will be further reduced.

From a market perspective, under favorable economic conditions, the Ross and Black Legions do not rule out the possibility of renewing Abraham, but the 5.9 million annual salary clause set by Rome for it is still an insurmountable obstacle. The Englishman's contract with the Red Wolf Corps extends into 2027 and he may return to Rome again.

The two deals involving Salemarkels and Abraham were clearly stated that they would be handled completely independently, mainly based on considerations of cost and salary structure. The tactical choices of coaches Ranieri and Concesan during the season sprint will also have an important impact on this.
