Manchester United 2024-25 season player rating: From shining Armad to sluggish Hoylund
5:21pm, 28 May 2025【Football】
Manchester United's 2024-25 season is one of the worst in club history. The team ended up at No. 15 in the Premier League, the club's lowest ranking in the Premier League era and the first time since 1974 that it has performed so badly in the top league. Throughout the season, United experienced coach changes, tactical adjustments and multiple key match losses, ending this nightmare season with 42 points, 10 goals and 18 losses. Here are the ratings of Manchester United players’ performances in this difficult season:
28. Tyrel Maracia - Unrated
Maracia played several games under Amorim after two knee surgeries and absent for 18 months, but it seemed far from keeping up. Joining Eindhoven on loan at the end of January is a good choice for both sides, and although he didn't play many games in the new club, he did win an Eredivisie title medal.
27. Toby Collier - Unrated
The former Brighton youngster was replaced by Tenhamhe in September against Liverpool in exchange for a poorly performed Casemiro, and he has been patiently waiting for the opportunity since. Under Amorim, he had a good chance of playing, sometimes even being picked before Casemiro, but two inappropriate injuries interrupted his progress.
26. Joni Evans - Unrated
The beloved veteran showed that he still contributed a lot as a substitute after his unexpected return last season, so United gave him another year of contract. But it turned out that was beyond his reach for him, with Evans having several appearances under Tenhach before starting in the first game under Amorim coach, but has been left out of the starting lineup since.
25. Harry Amas - Unrated
After an encouraging preseason performance, the youngster didn't finally make his debut until March. Armas started four times, all in the games before and after the Europa League. With each appearance, his physical weaknesses became more and more obvious. If he wants to get more opportunities next season, he needs to strengthen his physique.
24. Cheetho Obie - Unrated
The 17-year-old has a record-breaking goal performance on the U18 team, so people are looking forward to it, but the adult team's football is much harder than it seems, and Obie appears to be noticeably immature in seven appearances. He showed promising running in the FA Cup against Fulham, but struggled with ball possession and the defensive players quickly saw him out. His future is bright, but he must wait longer and work harder to achieve it.
23. Aden Haven - Unrated
Amorim commented on Haven: "He was too relaxed, sometimes too relaxed." Haven joined from Arsenal in January when he played only 10 minutes of senior team games. He played four times in two weeks in March, which was exciting, but suffered a foot injury in Leicester City, hindering his progress. He had another encouraging performance against Aston Villa on the last day, but ended up early with injuries.
22. Anthony - 2 out of 10 points)
For those who often watch Manchester United, Anthony's new position as the "God of Football" at Real Betis is simply incomprehensible. No fans were disappointed when he left on loan in January, as the only thing he was notable at United was a penalty kick in a big win over Barnsley. However, his net worth in Spain has soared, and Manchester United should take this opportunity to cash out instead of expecting him to improve upon returning to Old Trafford.
21. Rasmus Hoylund - 3 points
Hoylund's performance against Aston Villa on the last day summarizes his entire season: he was barely threatening, wasting an obvious opportunity, and when he finally scored the ball into the net, the offside flag was raised! After a decent but slightly bland performance in the first season of adapting to the new club and the new league, this season should have been a year when Hoylund began to pay back a £72m transfer fee and become a top striker. Instead, he retreated and his confidence dropped with each game. The Danish international has not scored for more than four months for a while, with only four goals in the Premier League at the end of the season and no assists. The Europa League was his redemption, with six goals, but only one of them was in the knockout round, and he performed in the finals in a mediocre manner.
20. Altai Baindir - 3 points
Bindir was poor in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham, conceding the ball directly from the corner, allowing Manchester United fans to recognize the word "ownball", and his penalty in the FA Cup against Arsenal was the only highlight of his second bad season at Old Trafford. He was injured in the rest of the Cup and experienced a rout at Newcastle that was supposed to give Onana some breathing opportunity. It is worth noting that he did not start in the penultimate league match against Chelsea in the first five days of the UEFA Cup final, and when Baindir appeared on the final day against Villa, he made a disastrous mistake, only to escape punishment due to the incompetence of the referee..
19. Luke Shaw - 3 points
Xiao overtrained before the 2024 European Cup to recover from health as he was out of the game for most of last season due to injury, guess what happened? He was seriously injured again, meaning he didn’t start the season until late November, then got injured and missed another four months. The England left-back is no longer what he was when he returned in April, losing four of his five starts, not winning one and being one of the worst performers in the UEFA Cup final.
18. Victor Lindelov - 4 points
Lindelov's career at Old Trafford ended with a sad and appropriate ending. He missed most of the season with injuries and then found himself at the bottom of the defensive rankings, starting only 12 times in various events throughout the season. Having to be called up late in the season, he did his best, especially when he made a rescue block against Athletic Bilbao, but it was obvious that he wasn't as good as he needed and few fans would miss him.
17. Andre Onana - 4 points
Onana started well, saved a penalty in Southampton and made an incredible double save at Fenerbahce, making José Mourinho the best goalkeeper in the world. But soon Onana was troubled by the same inattention problem last season. After Wolves conceded the ball directly from the corner, they made two mistakes against Nottingham Forest and two more mistakes against Brighton. However, the worst is still behind, and in the match of Lyon, he had a completely avoidable battle of words with Nemania Matic, resulting in a turnover. Although United signed him for £47 million in 2023, they should look for a replacement in the summer.
16. Marcus Rashford - 4 points
Rashford started the season with a tough start. His productivity stagnates, and his body language and reluctance to run off the ball further deepens fans' anger towards him. The England striker scored three goals in Amorim’s first two league games, but their relationship never recovered when it was reported that he went out for a night 48 hours before the win over Everton. Rashford's form rebound during loan to Aston Villa was a pleasant surprise, but that didn't change the fact that his relationship with Manchester United could no longer be maintained. However, it is worrying that despite Rashford leaving midway through the season, he remains the fourth-highest scorer in the United League.
15. Mason Mount - 4 points
Mount had another bad season, far from paying back the transfer fee of £60 million two years ago. Although he has seen a slight increase in playing time this season compared to the 2023-24 season, Mount continues to be troubled by injuries, with three different injuries leaving him out for over 20 weeks, but his attitude continues to impress Amorim. His only significant contribution was to defuse Athletic Bilbao threats in the second leg of the UEFA semi-finals, which mistakenly encouraged the coach to start him in the final, rather than Manuel Ugat and Alejandro Garnacho. Mount had a modest performance in Bilbao and although Amorim remained a big fan, not many of the fans liked him.
14. Christian Erikson - 5 points
Erikson continued to play the role of a substitute in his third and final season at Manchester United, although when Tenhamhe was still coaching, he was bigger than expected, scoring four goals and sending three assists in eight games. When Amorim took over the coaching stick, his importance gradually diminished, starting a total of eight games over the next seven months. The coach maintained respect for Eriksen, ensuring he scored a penalty against Villa and bid farewell to Old Trafford with a Premier League goal.
13. Kobe Menu - 5 points
The local midfielder was a surprise last season, but his importance has declined and after failing to impress Amorim, it looks like he will leave with Garnacho, who is also the FA Youth Cup champion. A poor performance against Liverpool at home hit Maynu's confidence, and he was shortly afterwards due to injury for two months. His return coincided with United losing six games in the frustrating December, with reports that the club was willing to sell him. Amorim replaced Maynu against Southampton a month later, and then briefly tried to use him as a No. 10 and a pseudo-Nine. Menu was injured again and had little chance after returning, and his great goal against Lyon looked like his last big moment with the Red Devils.
12. Joshua Zilkize - 5 points
Zilkize scored the winning goal in his Manchester United debut against Fulham, but his lack of speed quickly became a problem. Being replaced early against Newcastle and getting applause from most Old Trafford fans, one of the most uncomfortable moments of the season, but he showed his tenacity and scored a winning penalty against Arsenal a few weeks later. The Dutchman continued to improve, although goals were still rare (only three in the Premier League). His injury at Newcastle felt like a huge blow, mainly because it meant that Hoylund was the only healthy and experienced center to spend the rest of the season.
11. Lisandro Martinez - 5 points
started with a difficult start, but soon returned to form and became the leader of the defense again, and also became an offensive asset due to his passing vision. Unfortunately, just as things looked better, Martinez scored a priceless winning goal at Fulham, and he suffered an ACL injury and wouldn't play until next season.
10. Patrick Dogu - 5 points
Dogu is Amorim's first player from Lecce in January, hoping that he can help United play as the coach wishes. However, his influence is not impressive. The Danish, who had no goals and no assists in 18 games, had an extremely bad night against Ipswich, who sent one first and was sent off with a red card in the first half. Dogu looks not fast enough to surpass the opponent's fullback, his last pass is often lacking, and his defensive work is poor, as evidenced by his failure to keep the match winner Brennan Johnson in the Europa League final.
9. Manuel Ugat - 5 points
Ugat transferred from Paris Saint-Germain for £42 million, with a slow start and Tenghach rarely gives him a chance. But after the Dutch was fired, he won the fans' love by showing his ability to possess the ball. The Uruguayan’s fighting spirit was reflected in the FA Cup against Arsenal, and he later wrote on social media: “When we have the ball, it’s a game; when we don’t, it’s a fight.” Other highlights include a great equaliser at Everton, a goal against Lyon and two assists against Athletic Bilbao. However, Ugat continued to show a tendency to concede in dangerous areas, which could have left him losing his starting position in the UEFA Cup final.
8. Diogo Dalot - 6 points
Has had several bad performances, mainly in away games against Everton and home games against Tottenham, but overall, Dalot is reliable and versatile. He had to play more on the left, which was not ideal, but he kept his steady and adapted well to the wingback role after Amorim coached. He has performed well in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool and also in home games against Real Sociedad and Lyon, which means his future is safe, which is no easy task given the upcoming overhaul.
7. Nusel Mazravi - 6 points
It turns out that signing the Moroccan for £13 million was a very wise decision, he has played in various positions on the defense and proved himself one of the few members on the backline who can rely on. He is one of the few players that Tenhach has pushed for a successful transfer and the most reliable player from a health standpoint, playing the most games – though ironically, Mazravi was forced to leave the final day of the season with injuries.
6. Casemiro - 6 points
After a bad second season at Manchester United, Casemiro has a lot to prove, things were bad at the beginning, he became a scapegoat after a big victory at home by Liverpool and was ignored by Amorim several times. The slower pace of the UEFA Cup became the Brazilian's redemption, and Casemiro reestablished his role in the team, saving the team from disaster with three assists against Lyon, while also doing well against Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad. He has proven that claims about his decline have been exaggerated and he will stay to fulfill his contract unless an irrefutable offer is received from Saudi Arabia.
5. Alejandro Garnacho - 6 points
Considering the exciting trajectory he entered the season, Garnacho had a disappointing season with fewer goals and assists than in the 2023-24 season. He missed a lot of opportunities, most notably against West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lyon and Athletic Bilbao, and had not scored in nearly four months around the New Year. However, in a team that lacks firepower and creativity, Garnacho always offers hope for something and never stops trying. That's why it feels harsh to not make him start in the Europa League final, and why forcing him to leave feels like a huge risk.
4. Harry Maguire - 7 points
Maguire is one of the few positive stories in the Manchester United season. He continued to recover from the shadow of being almost forced to leave the club in 2023, becoming the most stable defender on the team for the second straight season. He found his place in Amorim's three-center-back system and became an unexpected savior in the offense; in fact, Amorim called him the best offensive in set pieces. Maguire's last-minute header against Lyon provides the most memorable moment of the season and one of Manchester United's best in European history, while his ingenious wing-road performance against Athletic Bilbao is almost equal. He also scored key goals against Porto, Leicester City and Ipswich.
3. Lenny Yoro - 7 points
Yoro was injured in his first pre-season appearance for £52 million, but his performance since February shows that Manchester United is right to sign him by spending a big buck to beat Real Madrid. He has been growing as a defender, but his ball-holding ability has allowed Yoro to stand out, which was fully demonstrated against Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao. As long as his foot injury does not occur frequently, the 19-year-old should play a major role in the club’s future.
2. Amad Diallo - 8 points
Amad showed Tenghach how much he underestimated himself, and performed well in the game against PAOK under Van Nisstrui, starting a four-goal and six-assisted winning streak, including a win over Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. His equalizer at Anfield and hat tricks against Southampton then emphasized his amulet quality and saved Amorim's face. As one of the rare highlights of the season, Amad suffered an ankle injury in February and was initially excluded from the rest of the season. In that moment, it felt like all hopes of the whole season disappeared, but the Ivorian returned early and returned to form, giving fans new beliefs in the dark.
1. Bruno Fernandez - 8 points
Fernandez is the best of a very bad group of players, and he keeps United alive, it is no exaggeration to say that without him, United could have really been relegated. Not only did he become the top scorer and assist leader of the season with 19 goals and 18 assists, he was also the team’s driving force and standard-bearer. His performance in the UEFA Cup final was disappointing, but more often than not, Fernandez was the one who carried the team forward. If he ends up traveling to Saudi Arabia, he will be deeply missed and he has received too few trophys when he leaves to reflect his efforts.
