Real Madrid Football Club wants to express its firm opposition to its members, fans and football enthusiasts on the proposal to hold the 17th round of La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona Football Club outside Spain.

The measure, without prior notice and soliciting opinions from relevant participating clubs, violates the principle of regional reciprocity in the double round-robin league (once home and away), undermines the competitive balance and brings an unfair competitive advantage to the requesting club.

Incident background:

Previously, at a meeting on August 11, 2025, the board of directors of the Spanish Football Association learned that Villarreal and Barcelona Football Club made a request for the 17th round of La Liga in the United States.
