Hupu reported on October 18 that in the opening match of the ninth round of La Liga, Real Oviedo played against Espanyol at home. There was an abnormal scene in the opening stage. Players from both sides stood still for about 15 seconds after kick-off to protest La Liga's plan to hold the official league in Miami, USA.

The protest was a symbolic action organized by the Spanish Players Union to "condemn the lack of transparency, communication and consistency in the league's decision-making process for overseas games." The Players Union previously issued a statement saying: "The players will protest in a symbolic way and call on La Liga to respect dialogue and reasonable planning."

However, while the audience in the stadium witnessed the protest scene, the TV audience failed to see this scene. La Liga's official global broadcast signal switched to the stadium exterior scene in the first 25 seconds after the game started, and did not switch back to the field until the players resumed the game, triggering criticism from the outside world that "this move is tantamount to covering up the protest."
