Fans organization criticizes Manchester United s new fare: destroys young fans foundation and violates fans interests again

According to Manchester Evening News on June 18, Manchester United announced that six Premier League home matches will be listed as Class A matches, with ticket prices ranging from 59 to 97 pounds. Opponents in these six games include Liverpool, Manchester City, Leeds United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle.

The other 11 league games are classified as Class B, with ticket prices ranging from £57 to 86; the ticket prices for two Class C games are between £37 and 60; while the domestic cup is classified as Class D, with ticket prices ranging from £32 to £52. Offers for teenagers and seniors are still valid, but the new classification is only available for single-game ticket-buying members and not for season ticket holders. Manchester United said the new fare structure reflects huge differences in the needs and appeals of different matches, and prioritizes the most loyal season ticket holders and under-16 viewers. However, Manchester United Fan Organization (MUST) claims that the Fan Forum and Fan Advisory Committee (FAB) are not fully involved in the discussion of new fares, and that the lowest fares have risen by more than 50% for most league matches. Manchester United said that the relevant data have been submitted to the FAB and have been reviewed at its request. The new measure came after the mid-term ticket price rose to £66 in the last season and caused dissatisfaction among fans. In addition, some fans protested the club's decision to move their season ticket seats to the new VIP area in the Bobby Charlton stands at Old Trafford Stadium.

A source said the introduction of a classification mechanism has made season ticket prices lower than Manchester United's initially proposed level. "Given last season's performance, we hope the club can rethink this new ticketing model, which will result in a shocking ticket price increase for about 20,000 fans per game per game. This is really a severity for Manchester United fans. When the club announced this new membership ticketing model, we urged them to maintain the current fare levels for most games, apply the highest fare category only to a few large matches, and lower the fare for games with lower demand."

" Again, they did not fully negotiate with any fan representative agency on the details of the decision, and again made a choice against the interests of the fans and the club as a whole. The club's promised ball Fan representation is good in principle, but not implemented in practice. While the structure has been established, and fan forums and FAB representatives are also performing their duties, the club has not followed the previous commitments and conducted adequate consultations, which needs to be changed quickly. What Manchester United needs next season is a united fan base and club, and the team needs loyal and enthusiastic support to get rid of last year’s disaster. These ticketing decisions will only push fans who watch the game to the edge, in turn, to attract occasional visitors and potentially shut out the next generation of young fans, which is where the club’s future lies. This game classification model will cause great damage and destroy the atmosphere of the court when the team needs it most.”
