Penders: Courtois gave me some advice, but I am now on my own path

Hupu, August 9, Chelsea goalkeeper Penders was interviewed by French Blue Radio.

Talking about Courtois

"We exchanged some information during the Club World Cup, and it was a pleasant conversation. He gave me some advice. We do have a lot in common, especially in the early days of our career. But now I am pioneering my own path, after all, he hasn't been in Strasbourg."

So what about Sails? Strasbourg's meritorious captain.

"I don't know him, I hope to see him one day in the national team," Mike Penders said. "I heard that he is a good guy, and I know that Strasbourg fans like him very much. I wish I could do that too (laugh)."

Penders started playing football at the age of 4 and was directly the goalkeeper ("I don't like running"). His figure is impressive.

"I'm exactly 2 meters tall, I've always been the tallest," he said with a smile. "But in modern football, the goalkeeper's height is getting taller and higher."

How do you think about joining Strasbourg?

"This is a perfect step for my career. I feel like I will make a lot of progress here. I have revisited many games and analyzed Strasbourg's style of playing.

They are the team with the most passes and receptions in Ligue 1. It's perfect for me. I hope my skills in playing will improve little by little. If I play further forward, the ball and pass should be perfect."

The young man hopes to be as excited as before the fans of Henk at the Menau Stadium as last season:

"I love Henk, this is my city. This is the club I grew up with. I can't wait to experience the same feeling here, accept and give the same love."

Penders has already started to study French.

"I learned some basics in school," he explained. "I have to learn French in the national team and now here too. So I'm learning and I can't wait to say French."
