Times: Newcastle ranks Atlanta central defender Scalvini as top target
8:39pm, 5 July 2025【Football】
July 4th According to the British media Times, Newcastle listed Atlanta central defender Scalvini as the top target, and the club's offer of 55 million pounds to Ilanga has also been accepted by Nottingham Forest.
Scalvini is Newcastle's primary goal and they hope to strengthen the central defender position as they return to the Champions League. It is reported that Scalvini has become one of the priority goals for Eddie Howe's transfer this summer.
Newcar hopes that their summer signings will be launched after their offer of 55 million pounds to Ilanga has been accepted by Nottingham Forest. In addition, they are increasingly optimistic about reaching a deal with Burnley for goalkeeper Trafford for about £30 million.
Newcastle has been seeking another central defender for the past year, and they failed to chase England central defender Guy last summer. Today, Scalvini is regarded as a signing worth £30 million and is the replacement for Dan Bourne and Schal.
Scalvini made his debut in Atlanta at the age of 17, and made his post-playing appearance in Italy against Germany at the age of 18 to complete his national team debut.
Scalvini was a regular main player for two consecutive seasons in Atlanta, but he suffered an ACL torn in the last game of the 2023-24 season, causing him to miss the European Cup that summer. He then suffered a shoulder injury and made only 8 appearances last season.
Nevertheless, Scalvini's huge potential makes him the top choice on Newcastle's potential central defender signing list to strengthen Eddie Howe's roster to deal with the tough season of multi-line combat. Newcastle also took a fancy to Marseille central defender Valerdi, and the player has played for the Argentina national team 8 times.
Newcastle is eager to inject fresh blood into the lineup, and the team has had no important adult players signing in three consecutive transfer windows.
Newcastle finally reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest on Thursday for the transfer fee of Elanga, after they had been negotiating since their initial offer of 45 million pounds was rejected. It is reported that Iranga's personal terms will not become a problem. According to the second transfer share terms, 15% of the transfer fee will be owned by Manchester United, who sold Iranga to Nottingham Forest in 2023 for £15 million.
Newcastle's offer of £25m to Trafford last weekend was rejected, but they did not give up on the goalkeeper. They almost signed Trafford a year ago until the team's problems with complying with Premier League financial rules were exposed. Trafford hopes the deal will be completed, and although Burnley hopes to receive a transfer fee of nearly £40 million, the two sides are expected to reach a discount on the Trafford transfer.
